I Ching Divination by Eric Teissedre

Long before the book of the I Ching, shamans were casting the 8 tri-grams as a means of ascertaining information. Divination gives boundaries to the intuitive process and divination can be quite fluid. A single sign can mean many things. An example of this: I was assisting with the management of an apartment building in San Francisco. One day, there was a very loud popping sound coming somewhere in the building. We searched and searched but could not find this very loud noise. So, I cast the I Ching, one hexagram and got “water above fire”.  Now, if I had used the book, it wouldn’t have been much help. But, thinking water above fire, we went down to the boiler room and lo and behold, there were small exploding sounds coming from the boiler. This is not to say the book is not valuable for interpretation, especially when you need guidance and you don’t want to project a wishful answer.
I would like to give you an example for the spring, a spring reading. Holding six rather large Chinese coins I have used for some time, I will make a contact with my inner source, which is being done simultaneously to this article being written. I ask that these signs be relevant to those reading this article. What I get is heaven above the lake. If this was to be written using the numbers one and zero, one for yang and zero for yin, or one straight line, zero broken line, it would appear as such.

If you are not used to seeing tri-grams in this fashion, it is the same as yin and yang, straight lines, broken lines.
Interpretation from a purely intuitive perspective: the lake is the ruler.  It can symbolize your source. It has a correspondence to Saturn. Saturn is now retrograde. Retrograde means go back, finish those things unfinished, restart your thinking about your true career, find that thing you truly love that is indicated by heaven, make your life as virtuous and as beautiful as possible. The heavenly tri-gram is solar. Try to work for yourself as much as possible. Get away from these nuts who are extracting all this work for insult and little pay. Don’t work for the devil! Work for heaven! We have come through a cycle that has not been virtuous. It has been a time of manipulation in which others own your hard earned money. Pull back, work for yourself, and don’t make investments, not with Saturn retrograde. It can be three years before investments are safe. If you can ride it out, do so. Find who needs your skill, work for them as if you are an independent agent, be willing to move on the minute things are not correct. Be versatile, do not get stuck. There is no better time for self-investment than now. Short term investments can be good, i.e. to buy and sell that fixer-upper, or to eliminate and sell antiques or second hand items.
Last but not least, invest in your own self education. There is a need to believe in the glory of self!  Stop empowering those outside of you, or believing that they have more authority or ability because of their credentials.
If you were to see other things in these tri-grams, different from what I saw, it would not make your interpretation less correct. In this system, you stimulate the intuitive process, but have a left-brain tool to guide that process. It is like going to the tarot reader, it would be frustrating if they stopped to interpret each card through the book to verify their reading is on track. This system is part of a number of systems used in China, in ancient times. Some of them have a surprising similarity to divination used in Africa.

Friendship is going to be important this Spring, as many changing things happen. April is a time of big change for people, all over the world. These can be personal changes, inner changes, and positive changes as long as one doesn’t resist change. We are all here to receive–some receiving blows that wake them up, some receiving arrows of love and enlightening.

Change happens so fast now…we are worlds apart in April. The unexpected occurs.

…but back to friendship…here’s an essay by a 9 year old girl that a friend brought to our East Side Santa Fe Drum Circle. The little girl wrote it around Valentine’s Day this year. I have a copy of the original, all scrawled on, definitely a kid’s handiwork, but the voice is amazingly wise and profound. Her mother said they have notebooks full of her writing. It was read to us out loud, a great way to hear it:

What is love? (Love story) Love Song!

“Love is a emotion, a feeling, and a X or an O. Love helps us feel cared, and respected. Without love, our world would fall apart. It’s a soft, warm, feeling to enjoy. Love is a big hug for your dad, a kiss for your mom, and a scratch for a dog. Love is spreading all around the world, to bring us joy. Love is in every 10 pm, every drop of water and in everybody. It is a present or a gift, big or small. Every part of it makes it special.

There are three parts to love. There is respect, kindness, and friendship. If any one wants to give love, they have to treat them as you want to be treated. Use the three parts to love to help you.

A present can be wrapped in any pattern of wrapping paper. Hearts, lollypops, swirls, a shape, a solid color, or words. Technically, it can be wrapped in any pattern. It all makes it special, even if it’s not wrapped at all. X means a kiss and O means a hug. People give out X’s and O’s to everybody every day. Even me. When love strikes another person, something is born. Friendship, relationship. You can love something, or someone.

Love comes from you heart, and goes through your whole body. Your heart sends love to your head, your arms, your legs and feet. But, you store some of it to keep for itself. No

one does not have love. Sometimes, you don’t feel loved, but that doesn’t mean you’re not important. It just means you need to relax for awhile, and cool off from anger or sadness.

Love can be anything you want it to be. Anything sweet, warm, fuzzy, beautiful and good. Love can be a noun, or a verb. To be a verb, you can love someone. To be a noun, you can receive love. Anything you want it to be. Your choice. You’re free. You’re loved.”

First, I would like to thank Elissa Heyman for providing me with some space for this article.
In doing astrology for a number of years, I have come to some realizations and would like to offer these as inspirations.
There is the question: are we fated or do we have free will? I am of the belief we have free will and yet this acts within certain boundaries of any given time. I have seen people overcome numerous negative aspects that could have normally predicted a negative outcome. Usually these are people of strong spiritual conviction who see their source as something above the planets. Astrology is a language of the heavens. It speaks for the temple of God, the universe. There are so many different systems of astrology, especially house division, that you wonder how astrologers of such diversity can read a chart. Some are using totally different zodiac signs, some use tropical, some use sidereal. I was always taught that whatever system you choose, stick to the rules of that system. If this is true, then there is a quantum going on with space. It is as if space can read your mind, knows what system of astrology you are using, and offers you guidance through that system. Food for thought, in that we are not always being dictated to in terms of what our fate has to be. Perhaps the universe is offering some suggestions. With that said, I look at the planets as they are now. We have passed through a time where many planets are in Aquarius, including the north node. Nodes are pretty intense. The sky suggests an investment into humanity. Let’s make the human being the subject of our investment and not the banks and bankers. I am making these statements, realizing these planets have occurred with and around the inauguration and can predict some of the thinking of the new administration. Invest in people, invest in education, and invest in the computer as a tool to reach more people with education. There is quite possibly a return of the dot com, without the madness of the late 90s. It is a business that has to make more sense. Even though Aquarius is a human sign, and would show some of these things, it is also the second house of the 10th, meaning money connected to the government, so there will be a re-thinking of a financial free-for-all and empowering banks with absolute rights. They have to be accountable to someone, the old checks and balances that this country is famous for. Speaking of checks and balances, there are issues with the courts. They seem to be making more and more decisions separate from public consent. We are in a Jupiter-Saturn opposition. I take liberties with an extremely wide orb in that it represents a larger amount of time. I wouldn’t be so liberal in viewing a natal chart, but the public is different than a natal chart. Saturn and Jupiter, being on the opposite side, suggest debate and duality from extremes, those Republicans and Democrats at war again.  Interestingly enough, in numerology, we are in a two year. Add up the numbers 2009 and they reduce to a two, a number of relationships. There are questions about relationships, set before the public at this time. I am optimistic about the times. I believe our mind affects things greatly. Astrologers can point out this administration started with mercury retrograde. This usually shows trouble, difficulty in communication. I don’t think it matters. Image is everything. We have an administration that is very image-conscious. Perhaps they will have a power of uniting us, idealistically, which will affect economy and such.

I grew up learning that every twenty years, a president would die in office because of a Jupiter Saturn aspect. In the past few years, this has lessened and with the last administration, was not true at all. Back to the quantum theory, the more we are aware of an aspect, it seems we can affect it with intention. We have people in office who pray, whether you are in agreement with their politics or not. We can wonder about the power of prayer. I believe it affects things greatly. In conclusion, look to the stars for guidance. My forte these days is what I call consultation astrology. It is an astrology that gives boundaries to the intuition. It has arrived in the observation of aspects at the time a person has a reading, especially the ascendant. It is amazing the synchronicities that can occur, but again, it does not bind the individual to a fated outcome. That is our job, to match minds, to work the spiritual power and to affect our so-called fate.

Number One: Let yourself off the hook from the job of saving the world and to tend to the care and well-being of your own self. Is there anything you need to function better?  How’s the chair you sit in…is it good for your back? Do you need to get tested for anything? Have you incorporated exercises into your daily life that you’ve been meaning to? Take care of yourself and do for yourself, in March.
Expect to realign partnerships: Because divisiveness is sure to follow if you don’t share values, expect to re-align, make adjustments to, or change partnerships if you and your partner are not on the same page. In the process, practice communication skills, emphasize trying to create ways that work, first.

Reach out to people this Spring: Make new friends, enter new social experiences–catch the spirit of adventure that’s in the air, urging people to go and  get involved in something new…it leads to more pleasure and a richer life. Spring is a feeling–something is happening– in everybody’s heart in March.

In the Air: This seems like a time that you either change, or something happens to you anyway that creates a change–everyone’s bending and growing in some new way, and entering into new partnerships with themselves.  If you don’t know what to do, do nothing for a minute, just be still and see what occurs to you when you stop and get calm, and  feel open to choose.

The Pictograph: To interpret, it looks like there’s an event or an angry outburst on a very large scale that involves a lot of people, and it is both a surprise, and something to be expected.

March 2009 Psychic Guidance for the Astrological Signs

Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): You have passed some test; something is very likely to work out well. You get a significant go-ahead from the world, and you might even get to tour it!

Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): Fire signs have questions about their changing identity–they’re very aware of personal change. It’s an experience to live through, not so much ask questions about. Only living through it and making choices makes it clear.

Earth (Taurus,Virgo,Capricorn): You deal with changes in partnerships, if they are not supportive, and more is clearer later in March. Not a good time to spend money to increase business. Wait to see what is actually happening before acting.

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): Now is the time to accept the truth, and find out what partnerships are glued, or where you need to go.  You are emboldened to act on your awareness of the bigger picture and follow where fate points.

I walk a few dogs in my neighborhood, or rather I go for a walk and they come with me (no leashes involved), and one of them developed the habit of walking very close to me, and not running and playing with the other dogs. This came from another person who trained him to do this, who liked him to walk close to her. After awhile, he’d realize it was me he was walking with, no need to stay close, and he’d go off. But I discovered a faster way to make him stop dogging my heels. If I shifted my attention to the dogs in front of me, watching their movements and no longer wondering why this dog was sticking so close, he’d immediately run off and join the others.  He couldn’t see my eyes, it was just a shift of focus to the pack ahead that would send him off. I’ve done this a number of times, it works right away every time!
